Contract Velocity: Standardize to Close Faster

Helped an early-stage SaaS startup standardize contracts and shift negotiation posture - reducing contract send-to-signature time from 1-2 months to ~1 week in most deals.

Client: Late-stage US-based SaaS startup.


Challenge: Deals were consistently reaching contract review, but negotiations were dragging on as customers pushed to modify multiple terms and conditions. Pricing was fixed, but contract terms were treated as negotiable by default - creating high legal and leadership effort, delaying deal closure, and slowing revenue recognition.


What we did: 

Coucal's consultants:

  • worked with the CEO and Legal team to design a simplified standard contract aligned to the company’s risk tolerance and commercial model.

  • coached leadership and the Sales team to adopt a firm, consistent stance on sticking to standard terms - treating contracts with the same discipline as pricing.

  • introduced a clear escalation and decision framework so leadership retained authority over whether to entertain contentious prospects and exceptions.


Outcomes:

  • In ~95% of cases, customers proceeded with the standard contract

  • Reduced contract send-to-signature timeline from 1-2 months to ~1 week on average

  • Accelerated deal closure and revenue generation timelines

  • Improved leadership clarity and control over exceptions and contentious prospects

  • Faster sales cycle was positively received by investors
